Cold Spring School is a K-8 environmental science and STEM magnet school in the Indianapolis public school system.
Cold Spring follows PBIS for managing student behavior and uses RARE to organize their rubric:
RARE drives Cold Spring’s strategic mission of growing global stewards and Advocates. In their rubric, students are recognized for positive behavior only under each RARE category. These behaviors include acknowledging others, completing tasks, coming prepared, outstanding participation, and more.
Outside of RARE, Cold Spring also has a rubric section for tracking common behavior incidents, like cell phone violations, disrespect, being off task, or using profanity. Students lose points for exhibiting these behaviors.
By tracking these in LiveSchool, Cold Spring can monitor when, where, and by whom negative behaviors are occurring. They can then bring this data to PBIS meetings to establish effective interventions and supports to mitigate these challenges.
Over the last school year, students at Cold Spring earned more than 700,000 points for positive behavior and had a 64:1 positive-to-negative behavior ratio. As a result, students were able to redeem 2500 rewards to celebrate their growth and their work as positive members of the school community.
