Creswell Middle Magnet Behavior Rubric

About Their Behavior Rubric

Creswell Middle Magnet School of the Visual and Performing Arts in Nashville, TN has created a LiveSchool Rubric using their school acronym ARTS and included sections for admins and AVID. They also included two categories for Cafeteria and Library.

About Creswell

Creswell Middle Magnet School of the Visual and Performing Arts follows the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program. The PBIS program is a proactive approach to establishing the behavioral supports and social culture needed for all students in a school to achieve social, emotional, and academic success.

PBIS involves teaching students appropriate behavior and providing them with feedback and reinforcement for positive behavior, rather than just punishing negative behavior.

Creating the Rubric

Their expectations combine both academics and behaviors and utilize the positive and negative points in LiveSchool in order to track all of their data. Plus, teachers are expected to award at least 30 points a week.

This year, their PBIS Team met over the Summer to revamp their matrix. They looked at their LiveSchool data as well as referral data from the previous year to identify which behaviors needed to be reinforced.

ARTS

Because the school is a magnet school for the arts, they have set their expectations to coincide with the ARTS acronym. The rubric's strategy matches their PBIS School-wide Matrix and helps all students and teachers know which behaviors should be reinforced.

  • Aim High
  • Respect for Self and Others
  • Think Creatively
  • Stay Safe

AVID

AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. It is a college-readiness program aimed at helping students develop the skills and habits needed to succeed in college and beyond. The team at Creswell has included a section in their rubric to reinforce the habits included in the AVID program like having an organized binder and taking focused notes.

Admin Only

Creswell Middle has included a section where the Admin Team can track data on specific discipline they assign. For instance, when detention, ISS, or OSS are assigned, they put it in LiveSchool to be able to easily see which students are receiving it and how often. There are also opportunities to earn points by having an unused Hall Pass Card or attending school events.

Signed Report Card

The team has also provided two opportunities for students to earn more points with their Progress Reports and Report Cards. When students get their report card signed by a parent, they are able to earn additional points! This is a great way to ensure students and parents are having conversations about their grades and reward them for it!

The team's efforts to revamp their matrix over the Summer have resulted in 609K positive behavior points that all aligned with their school’s unique values and expectations.
